I think we are becoming more and more emotionally illiterate. We are undermining our ability to relate; we dehumanize ourselves by leaps and bounds through keyboards and screens. It might be the price to pay for succumbing to progress, yet I sense that these smart devices are engulfing us. The changes happen at a pace so fast that they pass us by or stress us out. Language is mutating, without a doubt. New products and concepts, and English slang have become invasive. The emoticons meant to express warmth in chats, text messages and emails can often be misunderstood. The irony is not easy to detect when things are left so open to interpretation between the writer and the receiver.
Emoji sexting [Contemporary Paraphilias] serves to normalize sexual practices and philias. Few things are as odious as tagging. It marks us from the moment we are born with binary categories, pink and blue colors, pierced ears in hospital, by musical tastes, ways to dress, and much, much more. Everybody is full of nuances, but we strive to standardize and pigeonhole. This work, of a naive aspect, arises from thinking about how we will be in the future. There have been tremendous changes in recent decades. However, I’m not quite sure whether legacy models will be perpetuated or there are going to be significant changes in behavior. I like to imagine my future when I am old: which clothes I will wear, the music I will listen to. I’m not sure if I will get up early to go to church, but … will I get up early to go to an after hour?

Creo que nos estamos volviendo cada vez más analfabetos emocionales. Estamos minando nuestra capacidad de relacionarnos; nos deshumanizamos a pasos agigantados a través de teclados y pantallas. Podría ser el precio a pagar por sucumbir al progreso, pero siento que estos dispositivos inteligentes nos están superando. Los cambios ocurren a un ritmo tan rápido que nos pasan de largo y nos estresan. El lenguaje muta, no hay duda. Nuevos productos, conceptos, y los anglicismos nos invaden. Los emoticonos, destinados a expresar calidez en chats, mensajes de texto y correos electrónicos a menudo pueden ser mal interpretados. La ironía no es fácil de detectar cuando las cosas quedan tan abiertas a la interpretación entre el escritor y el receptor.

Sin embargo, no estoy muy segura de si los modelos heredados se perpetuarán o si habrá cambios significativos en el comportamiento. Me gusta imaginar mi futuro cuando sea anciana: qué ropa me pondré, qué música escucharé... No estoy segura de si me levantaré temprano para ir a la iglesia, pero ... ¿me levantaré temprano para ir de after?

Ich denke wir werden immer mehr zu Emotionsanalphabeten. Wir unterminieren unsere Fähigkeit Beziehungen aufzubauen. Wir entmenschlichen uns selbst sprunghaft, durch Tastatur und Bildschirm. Das mag der Preis sein, den wir für den Fortschritt zahlen, aber ich fühle das diese Smart-Geräte uns verschlingen. Diese Veränderungen geschehen so schnell, dass sie uns überholen oder in Dauerstress versetzen.
Sprache mutiert, ohne jede Frage. Neue Produkte und Konzepte und Englischer Slang sind zu Eindringlingen geworden. Emoticons, dazu gedacht Wärme in Chats und Textnachrichten zu vermitteln, können oft misverstanden werden. Ironie ist nicht leicht zu entdecken, wenn die Dinge zwischen Schreibendem und Empfänger so offen für Interpretation gelassen werden. Gewaltige Veränderungen haben in den letzten Jahrzehnten stattgefunden. Ich bin jedoch nicht sicher, ob althergebrachte Verhaltensweisen weitervermittelt werden werden oder ob deutliche Veränderungen in unserem Verhalten stattfinden werden. I stelle mir gern meine Zukunft vor, wenn ich alt bin: welche Kleidung ich tragen werd, welche Musik ich hören werde…
